Energy rebates exceeding £5m issued so far in Cherwell district
19/05/2022
To help with the cost of living crisis all homes in Council Tax Bands A to D are being given £150
Over £5m of energy rebates have been distributed so far by Cherwell District Council. The money is being paid to help with the rise in the cost of living and is being given across the country to all homes in Council Tax Bands A to D. The £150 payment will not need to be repaid.
To date rebates that have been handed out are to some of those in the district who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit. As of yesterday (May 18), 36,069 Council Tax payers had received their money, amounting to a total payment of £5,410,350.
Cherwell District Council has written to another 12,075 households that do not pay by direct debit with details of how they can receive their £150 energy rebate.
In West Northamptonshire the majority of those who pay their Council Tax by direct debit have now also received the rebate. The council says it is this week writing to the remaining 42,000 homes who do not pay by direct debit encouraging them to confirm their bank details so a payment can be made.
