Children tucked into tasty treats to top-off the town’s celebrations of the Queen’s 70-year reign
Banbury’s Big Sunday Lunch – the final event of the town’s platinum jubilee celebrations – saw more than 700 children enjoy a Market Place banquet.
The forecast rain stayed away and the youngsters, accompanied by parents, tucked into magical meals that delighted everyone.
The children, aged five to eleven, had pre-booked the free lunches and were rewarded with a true feast.
Organised by Banbury Town Council and Banbury BID, the lunch brought the curtain down on three massively successful jubilee events that started on Thursday with the lighting of the beacon in Spiceball Park, and continued on Saturday with a music and food extravaganza – Party in the Park.
Mayor Jayne Strangwood said: “It’s been a fantastic four days and being mayor has been wonderful. “I attended all three events and enjoyed all of them. Being mayor is something you never forget, but holding the office this year during the Queen’s 70th anniversary celebrations, has made it extra special.”
