Local musicians to perform for Banbury Charities
This Saturday evening (11th January 2020) a number of local musicians will come together to perform at an event to raise funds for two local Banbury Charities. The Horton Hospital Charity and Banbury Young Homeless project will benefit from the event which has a line-up featuring Til-Dawn, The Social Services, Catfish Creek and Theodore Lamb.
The evening, which is supported by Banbury FM, is one of a series of recent events bringing back the spirit of Banbury’s legendary Winter Gardens venue, which closed in 1982. Now demolished, the Winter Gardens was situated on the land between the top of the High Street and the area behind Iceland. The brainchild of the Ethel Usher who owned “The Inn Within” on the High Street, the venue played host to a number of big names, including Deep Purple, Rod Stewart and Tom Jones.
Banbury FM’s Bob Dainty is hosting the event. He said, “Back in 2011 ‘Bringing Back the Winter Gardens’ started to celebrate 50 years of 60s music in Banbury. We were approached by some local bands who didn’t have a chance to play The Winter Gardens but wanted to keep the name alive which led to events like this one.
“All the bands donate their time for free. A lot of money has been raised over the past 9 years and I am proud to be part of it”.
The Winter Gardens Revival starts at 7.30pm at The Mill Arts Centre. Tickets costs £10 and are available here.
