09/06/2022
“The strength and the bravery of the victim to face her abuser and give evidence in court is truly humbling”
A Banbury man has been sent to prison after being found guilty of assaulting his former partner on two occasions and for breaching a restraining order. Police have praised the strength and bravery of the victim in facing her abuser during his trial.
Thirty-nine-year-old James Hampton of Bankside was jailed for a year and given a two-year restraining order upon his release.
During the trial the court heard that on two different dates Hampton had kicked and punched the victim – a woman in her thirties – causing bruising.
On April 15, at around 1.30pm, the victim called police as Hampton had breached a restraining order by attending her address.
Officers found Hampton at the property with the victim and arrested him.
Yesterday at Oxford Magistrates’ Court he was found guilty of two counts of assault and three counts of breaching a restraining order.
Sergeant Sarah Nash, based at Banbury police station, said: “Thames Valley Police takes violence against women and girls extremely seriously.
“Following a thorough investigation, Hampton has been brought to justice despite continually denying his offending.
“I hope this sentence demonstrates that we are relentless in our pursuit of offenders.
“The strength and the bravery of the victim to face her abuser and give evidence in court is truly humbling and I hope the sentence allows her to move on with her life.”
