Chairman Ronnie Johnson: “it’s now time to face the new challenge head on”
Its been confirmed that Banbury United will be playing in the National League North this coming season. The decision was ratified by The National League at their AGM on Saturday.
The move up to Step 2 level football follows the Puritans promotion after being crowned the Southern League Premiere Division Central champions. Banbury accumulated 102 points during a hugely successful year, 23 points clear of second placed Peterborough Sports.
Fixtures for the forthcoming season are due to be released on Wednesday July 6. They will include a local league derby with Brackley Town, who already play in the National League North.
Banbury United estimate they will travel around 5,300 miles to away games this season. The club says they intend to hire an 85-seater highliner coach for travel, to ensure plenty of room for the players and management, with a good level of seats for supporters as well.
Contractual negotiations with players is currently continuing and the club says they will be releasing details of signings “by the end of the week”.
Chairman Ronnie Johnson said: “The excitement and euphoria of last season still lingers around the town and it’s now time to face the new challenge head on.
“I certainly hope we can continue our exciting attacking play and defensive stability as we advance to join this elite league. I am confident Andy [Whing] and his squad will be ready.”
