Brave souls set to race their karts at Avon Dassett’s Soapbox Derby
24/06/2022
Competitors can reach speeds of up to 50-miles-per-hour
A record number of people have registered to race down the hill in Avon Dassett for Saturday’s Soapbox Derby. Those taking part can reach speeds of up to 50 miles per hour on the descent.
Races will start at 10.15am and run through to 5.00pm. 36 karts from both seniors and juniors have entered with the youngest competitors aged just 7 years old.
The senior race is run as a knockout with two karts at a time braving the steep and winding hill. The winner of each heat goes through to the next round until one kart is victorious.
People are expected to flock to Avon Dassett for the Soapbox Derby, which is a unique and popular event on the village’s summer calendar. Free parking is available and a street market will be operating. The Yew Tree pub will be open all day with a band in the evening.
The race raises money for charities and local groups and is this year supporting The Children’s Christmas Wish List.
