Census reveals Cherwell district population has leapt up by 13.5%

The growth rate is more than double the overall increase for England
The number of people living in the Cherwell District has leapt up by 13.5% in the last ten years. Results from the 2021 census reveal that 161,000 people now live in the district – up from 141,900 ten years ago.
Cherwell’s population is now just 1,100 fewer people than the number living in Oxford city (162,100).
The area’s growth rate is more than double the overall increase for England which stands at 6.6%, and higher than the 7.5% increase measured across the south-east.
In percentage terms the increase in the local population is amplified in the older age groups. The number of people aged 70 to 74 has grown by 46%. However those aged 25 to 64 still make up 55% of the total local population.
Cherwell currently ranks 125th for total population out of 309 local authority areas in England – thirteen places higher than ten years ago.
The largest population increases in the south-east were seen in Dartford and Milton Keynes, where the number of people has grown by 20.0% and 15.3%, respectively.
Overall the population in England has increased by nearly 3.5 million to 56,489,800.
