Users of face masks and gloves urged to dispose of them properly
A plea has been issued for people wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) such as face masks and gloves to dispose of them properly. The request to not litter comes from Cherwell District Council following an increasing number of items being found discarded around Banbury.
The Council say used gloves and face masks should go in the residual waste bin at work, or a litter bin if you’re outside. If a rubbish bin is not available PPE users are asked to take items home and put the items in the green bin. Used gloves and face masks should not be put in the blue bin as they cannot be recycled.
At the start of May Keep Britain Tidy issued a similar plea, saying, “No one should have to deal with someone’s littered PPE”.
They also warned of the dangers of unsafely discarding items of used PPE, adding, “Please be responsible and bin masks and gloves after use, protect the environment and help limit the spread of coronavirus”.
Cherwell District Council requests that anyone seeing littering reports it through their website.
