Shopkeepers urged to display a thank you to mark hospital milestone
05/07/2022
The Horton General Hospital has been open for 150 years this July
Local shopkeepers are being asked to join in with the celebrations to mark the Horton General Hospital’s 150th anniversary in a couple of weekends time.
It was on July the 17th in 1872 that the Horton opened its doors for the first time.
During the weekend of the 16th and 17th of July this year businesses are being asked to display a message of thanks to the Horton and its staff for 150 years of service.
The idea for the vote of thanks in shop windows has come from Sian Kaye, who is a long-term outpatient at the hospital.
She has already arranged for local churches to ring their bells in celebration of the anniversary. St Mary’s in Banbury will ring out a special peel for the hospital during the Sunday afternoon.
Sian is hopeful local shopkeepers and businesses will also display messages in their windows as a show of support for the Horton General from the town and the wider community.
She said: “They do not have to change their window displays, but just put a thank-you to honour all the fantastic staff at our wonderful Horton General Hospital.
“The Horton to me means absolutely everything. I’m a long-term patient there – I have been a patient since the age of 6. I’ve got a fantastic consultant and the whole team of staff treat me with the greatest respect.
“I just honour that hospital.”
Anyone wanting further information on how to join in can contact Sian by emailing kayesian656@gmail.com.
