Town Mayor’s Sunday offers a £1,000 prize for strong Banburians
07/07/2022
People’s Park will be filled with games, stalls, funfair rides and food and drink this Sunday
It will be party time in People’s Park on Sunday with £1,000 up for grabs for someone with muscles – lots of muscles.
Town Mayor’s Sunday will be a day of fun and excitement with games, stalls, funfair rides, food and drink – and a big-money challenge by The Mighty Smith.
Adrian Smith, three times winner of UK’s Strongest Man Competition, will put on a show geared for family fun with visual humour and audience participation.
Pulling vehicles, bending six-inch nails in his teeth, holding a chair with a lady sat in it with his teeth, presenting a children’s prize tug of war, and other feats of strength will be part of his show.
A £1,000 open challenge will give would-be strong men or women the chance to out-do the champion.
Banbury mayor Jayne Strangwood is inviting townspeople young and old to join her in the park for a day of music, games and arena entertainment.
Admission is free and the party will start at 11am and continue until 3pm.
A dog show organised by Dogs for Good, and a display of emergency vehicles will be added attractions as will stalls run by charities and local traders.
Cllr Strangwood said: “Town Mayor’s Sunday is traditionally a family favourite. They can take part in the fun or they can simply settle down to watch.
“It’s a day when whole families can come out together and enjoy themselves.”
She added: “I’m really looking forward to being there and seeing lots of happy faces.”
