Paragliding event provided summertime spectacle and cash for local charity

121 pilots took to the skies during the weekend event
The skies above north Oxfordshire were filled with paragliders this weekend as members of the Paramotor club brought their annual summer event to a farm field in Adderbury.
Around 165 adults and 30 children took part in the event with 121 pilots taking to the skies and raising money for the Lets Play Project. £1,114 was donated by people booking in to attend.
People headed to the area from across the country including visitors from the north of Scotland and the bottom of Cornwall. International visitors included pilots from Romania and the USA.
Whilst most arrived by road, one pilot chose to fly in from around 200 km away in Herefordshire.
The club holds three events a year with a regular meet by the River Severn, but the main summer event visits various sites each time.
Flights were made during the early part of the morning and into the evening when the weather conditions were more favourable
Organiser Simon Westmore said: “Quite a popular route was going down to Jeremy Clarkson’s farm and having a look. Silverstone was also quite popular. [Paragliders] tend to stay up for a couple of hours and they do around 30 miles per hour.”
Local people were invited to visit the site and enjoy the mini festival style atmosphere, which included food, a bar and music.
Mr Westmore said: “We’ve had 95% really positive feedback from the local community. Lots of them came up to watch and take photos during the weekend.
“We had picked the charity to support, but it wasn’t until I looked at a map that I discovered they were just a couple of fields away from us!”
