Adderbury Theatre Workshop starts the celebrations for its 50th anniversary year with a new production of the much-loved comedy Calendar Girls, coming to Adderbury Institute from 13 May.
Following the success of the group’s lively pantomime in January, the milestone season continues with this warm, witty and moving play by Tim Firth, based on a remarkable true story.
Calendar Girls tells the story of a group of Women’s Institute members who set out to raise money for charity after Annie’s husband John dies from leukaemia. Their unconventional plan, producing a calendar featuring members of the WI tastefully posing with strategically placed cakes, flowers and knitting quickly captures the public’s imagination and becomes a national phenomenon.
Filled with humour, friendship and touching moments, the play celebrates community spirit and the power of ordinary people doing something extraordinary. Paul Cox who directs the production, said: “Calendar Girls is such a wonderful piece because it balances genuine laugh-out-loud comedy with very moving moments. It’s a story about friendship, courage and doing something positive in difficult circumstances, and our cast has had enormous fun bringing these characters to life.”
The production features a talented cast of local performers and promises an evening full of laughter, warmth and unforgettable moments.
Performances take place evenings at 7.30pm with a matinees at 2pm on Friday and Saturday.
Tickets cost £15.00 and are available using the link above.
