Avocet Theatre Company are set to bring a big, bold and brilliantly heartwarming musical to Banbury this Easter as they stage Shrek the Musical at Wykham Theatre as they celebrate their 10th Anniversary year.

Fresh from the overwhelming success of Cinderella: A Musical Pantomime and the sold-out triumph of Nativity! The Musical, Banbury’s award-winning, volunteer-led charity returns from Wednesday 8th to Saturday 11th April 2026 with one of the most beloved family musicals of the modern era.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film, Shrek the Musical brings everyone’s favourite unlikely hero to life on stage, complete with a fantastic, toe-tapping score and all the fairytale favourites audiences know and love. Featuring spectacular ensemble numbers, laugh-out-loud comedy, stunning costumes and a timeless message about self-acceptance, this is a show that appeals to theatre lovers and families alike.

Celebrating their 10th Anniversary Year, Avocet Theatre Company could not have chosen a more joyful and celebratory production. Over the past decade, ATC has grown from performing in a small school hall to producing ambitious, large-scale musicals that have become a firm fixture in Banbury’s theatre calendar. Their commitment to high-quality, accessible and varied community theatre has earned them a loyal following and regional recognition, including the prestigious NODA Flame Award for Inspirational Contribution to the Pursuit of Excellence in Theatre.

Featuring a large cast of adults and young performers from across the region, the production is supported by an experienced creative team and a dedicated army of volunteers working behind the scenes to bring the swamp to life.

Shrek the Musical runs from Wednesday 8th to Saturday 11th April 2026 at Wykham Theatre, Wykham Park Academy, Banbury. Evening performances begin at 7.30pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.00pm.
