A second child’s been injured

A child has died after being hit by a car on a rugby pitch in Kendal and a man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, Cumbria Police said.

A second child was injured and is being treated by paramedics, and the families of both victims have been informed, the force said.

Officers were called just before 5pm on Wednesday to Kendal Rugby Union Football Club on Shap Road.

“Police are treating this collision as an isolated incident and there is no suggestion at this time that this is terror-related,” the force said.
