1,200 youngsters heading to Rugby Club for mini festival

Junior teams are heading here from across the region
Around 1,200 six to twelve year-olds will be heading to Banbury Rugby Club for this year’s Mini Rugby Festival on Sunday.
The annual event is at capacity with teams traveling to the festival from across the region, including entrants from Reading, Coventry, Stow and Witney.
As the teams play each other, referees with be noting their Teamsmanship, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship, leading to the presentation of TREDS awards at the end of the day.
As well as the rugby there will be plenty of food and drink available, along with face painting and temporary tattoos.
The event is organised by the parents of Banbury Rugby Club’s Under 12s. Charli Walker is on the committee who have put the event together.
She said: “It’s going to be a fantastic day with so many clubs attending.
“It’s all about the rugby, about the sportsmanship and the community – just them having fun, playing lots of games, enjoying themselves and being at one with the club.”
The first games start at 10am and traffic is likely to be busy on the Oxford Road from 8.30am onwards.
