22/07/2022
Thames Valley Police have been praised for the speed with which they dealt with the incident
A 14-year-old boy from Banbury remains in police custody this morning after police were called to reports of youths riding a moped dangerously on Thursday evening. They were spotted around the Ruscote Arcade area.
In addition to the boy who was arrested, eyewitnesses also saw other youngsters on the bike. Police are continuing to try to identify them.
The moped they were using has been seized.
The boy that was taken into custody was arrested on suspicion of using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance, driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or in a public place without due care and attention and failing to stop a vehicle when required by a constable.
Police are hoping the public will continue to provide the evidence they need to enable them to clamp down on the problem. A spokesperson said: “We are aware this is an ongoing issue for residents and we encourage you to report incidents to us.
“Whilst it is not always practicable for us to respond at the time of the incident we do encourage people to send us photos of those on the bikes. These should be emailed to us at RuscoteHardwickNeithropNHPT@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk.”
The speed with which officers dealt with the incident have been noted by grateful local people. Writing on social media Paul Addison said: “I’d like to praise the officers of Thames Valley Police Banbury for their extremely quick response… I’d like to thank them for taking residents’ concerns seriously about the risk to the public (especially innocent children playing in the park) of being knocked down. Hopefully this will bring this anti-social behaviour to an end.”
