Council weed killer scam hits town
20/05/2020
Individual wanting doorstep payment claims to be from Council
Banbury residents are being advised to be on their guard for a scam whereby an individual offers to spray weed killer on people’s paths in return for a cash payment. The scammer claims to be from the council.
The scam has been reported today in the Broughton area of Banbury. A man calls on householders and offers to spray weed killer on their paths. He then asks for money afterwards. He is approximately 40-50 years old.
Whilst the individual claims to be from the council it is actually a scam. Earlier today he was driving a flatbed lorry with bins on the back.
Thames Valley Police has issued the following advice: “Do not accept services from anyone offering them on the doorstep. Please be vigilant and advise your elderly and vulnerable neighbours in particular”.
If you believe you may have any information please call 101 or use the police’s online reporting form.
