Cherwell Drive closure could cause delays for cross town motorists
28/06/2020
Drivers warned of roadworks with signed diversions as Castle Quay II utilities installed
Motorists heading from Grimsbury across to the Southam Road through the centre of town may need to allow extra time this week as one of their main routes will be closed for roadworks. Shoppers hoping to use the main Castle Quay multi-story car park will also need to plan their journeys to gain access.
From Wednesday Cherwell Drive will be closed from Concord Avenue next to the Spiceball Park Sports Centre as far as Spiceball Park Road. Motorists hoping to gain access to Castle Street, the Hillier Garden Centre and the Castle Quay and Spiceball Park car parks will need to do so via the Southam Road by The Three Pigeons pub.
The closure of the section of road between Spiceball Park Sports Centre and the redevelopment area is to allow for utility works to be carried out for the Castle Quay II project. It is anticipated the closure will be in place from Wednesday 1st July until Thursday 9th July.
Signed diversions will be in place. However drivers instead using Hennef Way to the Tesco roundabout and then returning into town using the Southam Road can expect delays using this already busy route.
A statement issued by Castle Quay Shopping Centre says, “We would like to thank the local community for their continued support during the works. Castle Quay Waterfront will bring an exceptional new offering for the town centre, complementing the existing shopping centre and providing the best in class for residents”.
A further road closure is planned on Concorde Avenue between Castle roundabout and the Concord roundabout from Monday 20 July to Sunday 26 July.
