22/04/2021
Males from the Birmingham area caught in Banbury on Wednesday
Another scrap metal collector had their vehicle seized yesterday after being caught operating illegally in Banbury. The vehicle’s driver was also fined for not having a valid MOT or insurance.
The vehicle with its two male occupants was first seen by an officer from the Community Safety Team in Burns Road. It was then spotted collecting in Pipers Croft.
With assistance from Thames Valley Police the vehicle was stopped on the Broughton Road side of Balmoral Avenue. When checked it was found to have no insurance or MOT.
The driver received fines totalling £400 (£300 for no insurance and £100 for not having a valid MOT). The vehicle was seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.
The vehicle’s occupants did not have a Collectors License, but as this was the first time they had been seen locally they were given a warning.
The occupants were a 42 year old male and his 17 year old son from the Birmingham area
Writing on social the Community Safety Team said: “Always ensure the collector you use is fully licensed. If you are unsure of the rules please speak to us by emailing community.safety@Cherwell-DC.gov.uk or call us on 01295 221824.”
