New town mayor appointed
19/05/2021
Shaida Hussain will takes over the role from John Colegrave
Banbury’s new mayor is Cllr Shaida Hussain who was elected at a council meeting at the town hall on Tuesday.
It is her second term in office – she first wore the robes in 2018/2019.
Cllr Hussain said: “It is an absolute privilege to be mayor of Banbury and for me to be asked to do it for a second time is a massive honour.
“I am looking forward to it, and I only hope that virus restrictions will be fully lifted so that I can get out and about and fulfil my mayoral engagements.”
Cllr Hussain represents Grimsbury Ward on Banbury Town Council and first became a councillor in 2012. She was born in Banbury and has lived in the town all her life.
Cllr Hussain took over from Cllr John Colegrave who had served two successive years in the role because coronavirus lockdowns prevented the mayoral election in 2020.
The new deputy mayor is Cllr Jayne Strangwood.
