Broughton Castle forms backdrop to three nights of movies
26/05/2021
Film goers will be able to watch one classic movie in the location where it was filmed
Broughton Castle will form the stunning backdrop for three iconic movies being shown by Chipping Norton Theatre and Cinema, starting tomorrow night (May 27).
Chippy Cinema Al Fresco will see movie fans take their seat in the stately courtyard of the sixteenth century castle. Over the three nights they will be able to catch Pretty Woman on Thursday, The Greatest Showman on Friday and Shakespeare In Love on Saturday.
The theatre are delighted to have been allowed to stage the event at Broughton Castle. John Terry, the Artistic Director at Chipping Norton Theatre, said: “Broughton Castle is a sensationally beautiful place. It is open occasionally to the public, but this is quite a rare opportunity to have the grounds to wander round and to sit in the magisterial splendour of the castle courtyard.”
Movie goers will find an area set up for picnicking and another for their own seating. The theatre will have chairs available for hire for those that don’t want to bring their own. Each person will be supplied with a headset so they can hear the film in perfect quality.
Saturday night’s film will be particularly relevant to the venue. John Terry said: “We’re showing Shakespeare In Love with Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes. A good deal of the film was shot in the grounds of Broughton Castle, so audiences will be walking in their footsteps as they come in to watch the film.”
The three nights at Broughton Castle are part of a run of outdoor events for the spring and summer as the theatre seeks ways to keep audiences entertained in a safe way. Performances are also planned at Heath Farm in Swerford and Chipping Norton Rugby Club. In addition to the movie nights a number of live performances are also planned, including Pride and Prejudice at Broughton Castle in July.
