Driver safely gets out of vehicle after spotting smoke in his rear-view mirror

Fire crews from Bicester and Kidlington were called to a car fire on the M40 two miles south of Banbury last night (Thursday May 11).  Traffic had to be held for a short period of time whilst the blaze was dealt with.

The car was fully alight by the time the fire service arrived at 6.40pm.

The driver of the vehicle had noticed a change in the vehicle’s handling and then saw smoke in his rear-view mirror.   He was able to safely pull over and get out of the car.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using hose-reels. Two small camping gas cylinders were cooled and removed from the vehicle.

Highways England’s South-East team were also at the scene to assist with traffic control.
