20mph limits coming to Bloxham

12/10/2023

The A361 through the village will be subject to the new lower limit

Drivers heading through Bloxham on the main A361 will now have stick to a 20mph speed limit.   A decision to implement the new lower limit was agreed at Oxfordshire County Council this lunchtime.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting chaired by Andrew Gant, the Cabinet Member for Highway Management, at County Hall.   All roads in Bloxham will be subject to a 20mph limit.

During a consultation 20 people objected to the idea with a further 13 raising concerns.   But a majority of 35 people were in support.

Cherwell District Council said they supported a 20mph limit on the village’s narrow and more constrained roads but suggested the proposals be re-considered on more strategic routes.   It also believed that in many locations parked cars already kept speeds below 20mph.

Bloxham Parish Council supported the plans and requested for 20 limits on strategic routes.

My god! the world has gone mad. its not working in Deddington (trust me I know. In fairness the main road through the village you can’t do much more than 20 anyway but subjecting the rest of the village to this ludacris ill thought out speed limit is only going to add to the congestion that Bloxham suffers it will take a third longer for traffic to drive through the village (just like deddington) adding to pollution buy being forced to drive slower in lower gears at higher revs, This will mean the school buses that service Bloxham school and The Warriner are now going to take longer to get to and from schools, meaning more time spent on a bus meaning getting our children up even earlier and getting home even later. how are the people who approved this utter stupidity allowed out without supervision? You people are ruining this country with your pathetic ill thought out myopic policies!

      Well said !
I have been lobbying our MP arguing against this stupidity which will adversely affect productivity and therefore the UK’s competitiveness.
In Bloxham’s case the measure was introduced after after 68 residents indicated an interest, with a majority ‘for’ of 2, thus imposing the restriction on a population of (how many ?) thousand apathetic residents ! ! Is this democracy ?
Outside schools where there is not a zebra / pelican – maybe -, but then only at assembly and going home times .

Excellent news, the village will be a much safer place for our children. To all the moaners, just set off two minutes earlier…

They want to re check the speed limit through South Newington. From Chipping Norton in to the village is 30MPH. Then from Banbury in the village is 20MPH. They need to decide which it is.
