Children on the Bretch Hill estate are having extra fun this summer holiday thanks to an exciting new play area in Princess Diana Park.
A £50,000 refurbishment of the existing playground is aimed at encouraging social activity for five-year-olds through to teenagers.
The update was completed by Banbury Town Council in time for the school holidays and the new equipment is safe and suitable for children of all abilities.
The refurbishment includes a super multi-play unit that provides a range of activities.
A four-metre climbing tower and a huge tube slide have been installed for older users – and new rocking play units in a smaller tower are for younger children.
The updated facility was officially opened earlier today (Friday) by Cllr Martin Phillips, chairman of the council’s general services committee – which oversaw the modernisation.
Cllr Phillips said: “The new equipment is the latest and best available from one of the country’s leading manufacturers.
“The new unit will significantly improve the play value at this park and will provide interest, excitement and interactive play for local children.”
The council owns and maintains 65 play areas in Banbury.
Cllr Phillips said: “The council has a policy of refurbishing its play areas as required on rota basis; and is proud to provide this new play facility for the local community to enjoy for years to come.”
Paul Almond, the town council’s Director of Environment, added: “The play area will be inspected and maintained regularly by the town council to ensure it stays safe.”
