The site is currently farmland next to the playing field

Another planning application has been submitted for a large-scale development in Bloxham.

David Wilson Homes South Midlands want to build 95 houses on a farm field site next to the playing field on the South Newington Road, further extending the built-up border of the village.

In their application the developer says they initially discussed building 125 homes on the nearly 6 hectare site, but reduced this to 95 following initial conversations with Cherwell District Council.

The proposed new estate would incorporate 33 houses deemed affordable, including all 18 of the planned one and two-bedroom homes.   42 percent of the development would comprise 4 and 5-bedroom properties.

The applicant notes Cherwell is not currently achieving the statutory level of house building as set out by the government.   Whilst this situation may be addressed through the area’s new Local Plan, that has not yet been approved – something the applicant noted.   They wrote: “At this stage only limited weight can be afforded to the Emerging Local Plan, including matters of housing requirement and distribution of development against the settlement hierarchy.”

Comments from the public need to be submitted by December 4 with a decision on the application due in February.
