A week to celebrate the Banbury Cake
05/08/2024
Special ice creams, mouth-watering puddings and refreshing cocktails are on offer
The humble Banbury Cake is being celebrated in town this week with local bars and eateries paying homage to the world-famous delicacy.
A range of special creations have been invented to complement the sweet treats, including special ice creams, mouth-watering puddings and refreshing cocktails.
The week will culminate with the Banbury Cake Bake Off on Saturday, with bakers of all abilities invited to showcase their skills and creativity.
Brown’s Original Banbury Cakes are today made by baker Philip Brown, whose family has been making these traditional cakes for centuries. The recipe is a closely guarded secret and dates back to the thirteenth century. Banbury Cakes are often confused with other regional cakes such as Eccles Cakes or Chorley Cakes.
Banbury Cake week has been organised by Banbury BID.
BID Strategist Jasmine Gilhooly said: “We are delighted to bring the Banbury Cake Bake Off to our community and showcase the talent and passion of local bakers.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors to come together, indulge in delicious treats, and support our local businesses and the community.”
