A361 sinkhole will take “weeks or months” to repair
02/12/2024
The suggested diversionary route goes via Southam
A sinkhole has appeared on the A361 between Wardington and Chipping Warden and it could take months to fix.
The road has been closed all day after the hole appeared. The problem appears to be close to where the main road between Banbury and Daventry crosses the River Cherwell.
Last night a road user reported an issue in the area to Oxfordshire County Council, saying: “[The] road surface has sunk significantly above the river in the past two days, possibly due to previous week’s flooding in the area.
“There is a high chance that the bridge will collapse due the very heavy traffic.”
A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council noted the sinkhole “is likely to take several weeks or months to repair.”
In the meantime the suggested diversionary route is using the A423 Southam Road to Southam and then taking the A425 to Daventry.
