A new state-of-the-art sports facility has opened in Banbury.

The Football Foundation PlayZone, based at Chandos Sports Ground in Grimsbury, was delivered on time and on budget after 10 weeks of construction.

75 percent of the funding came from the Premier League, The FA and the government’s Football Foundation, with Cherwell District Council providing the rest.  Banbury Town Council provided the land and will oversee the ongoing support.

The PlayZone offers an all-weather training facility for football and other sports, complimenting existing pitches and play areas.

Community groups and clubs can now book the space for recreational use.

Councillor Rob Pattenden, Cherwell District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Healthy Communities, said: “The new Football Foundation Playzone is a fantastic investment in the health and wellbeing of Banbury communities.

“It creates a safe and welcoming space for people of different backgrounds, abilities and walks of life to come together through a shared loved of football and other sports. We’re delighted to have helped fund the new Playzone and to be delivering it today on time and on budget for people living in the Grimsbury area.”
