Amber weather warning for ice and snow
03/01/2025
Current forecasts show snow arriving on Saturday evening
An amber weather warning has been issued indicating snow and ice is likely to affect our area this weekend.
The warning, which covers much of central England, Wales and the north of the country, runs from 6pm on Saturday until midday on Sunday.
We are also warned that ice could be a problem locally from midday on Saturday until the end of the weekend.
As temperatures struggle to get above freezing point, current predictions from the Met Office indicate snow arriving here during Saturday evening and remaining through the night.
They warn there is a good chance that power cuts may occur, some roads may be closed with longer journey times and untreated pavements and cycle paths are likely to be impassable.
For those hoping to enjoy any snow that does settle they do need to be quick. Temperatures are set to rise on Sunday afternoon, leading to any snow melting away as the day progresses.
During periods of extreme cold weather, emergency shelter is provided by Oxfordshire’s local homelessness agencies.
Anyone concerned about a homeless person during the cold spell can contact Street Link through their website . They will send alerts to the relevant council or outreach team who will find the person and try to help.
