Application for 135 homes in Deddington withdrawn
18/04/2023
Deddington Health Centre objected to the application saying they had been at more than capacity for several years
An application to building up to 135 homes on a greenfield site to the north of Deddington has been withdrawn by the applicant. The request for outline permission had been due to be discussed by councillors at last week’s Planning Committee meeting.
The Council’s officers had recommended that the application be refused.
Bloor Homes South Midlands wanted to build the houses on the agricultural land to the west of the A4260 Oxford Road. The proposed site sits next to the recent developments of The Swere and Daedas and extended as far as the Council Depot at the layby.
The application covered an area of around 13.4hectares with up to 35 per cent of the homes being classed as affordable. A day nursery facility and a village parkland public open space, including a children’s play area, were also included.
The planning application received 259 letters of objection with just three letters of support.
Deddington Health Centre were amongst those against the proposal. In their submission they noted their building had been at more than capacity for several years and was at a point that they are unable to recruit additional healthcare professionals or supporting administrative staff due to the building constraints.
Cherwell’s care officer Wayne Campbell wrote: “the proposal would have a poor and incongruous relationship with the existing settlement appearing prominent in the open countryside. Its development would therefore have an adverse effect on the landscape of the approach to Deddington to the detriment of the character and appearance of the countryside.”
Councillors were notified that Bloor Homes South Midlands had withdrawn the application ahead of the Planning Committee meeting last Thursday.
