Approval recommended to build apartments on caravan site and car park
13/07/2023
The application sits within an area identified in the current Local Plan for regeneration
A section of land in Banbury between the Oxford Canal and the River Cherwell, which is currently used as a caravan park and a car park, looks set to be redeveloped with up to 63 apartments being built there – if Councillors agree at a planning meeting today.
The site is accessed off Station Approach via a road between the Chiltern Rail car park and a disused warehouse building. The residential caravan park currently has 18 pitches, which are included in the Council’s gypsy and traveller site provision. The site also includes a building used as a religious meeting room.
The site owner’s agent considers that the current pitch tenants are not gypsies or travellers, but says they do have other sites the tenants could move to.
The application sits within an area identified in the current Local Plan for regeneration.
Banbury Town Council don’t have any issues with the application but have asked that as much affordable housing as is viable is provided on the site.
The application is recommended for acceptance.
