Armistice Day marked
11/11/2021
People fell silent around the area at 11am this morning
Across the Banbury FM area people have fallen silent to remember all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts around the world.
In People’s Park the Reverend Sarah Bourne from St Mary’s Church led a short Armistice Service. Just before 11am The Royal British Legion Ode was read and standards lowered as the British Legion’s buglers played the last post.
Members of the public stood around the War Memorial taking part, including children from St Mary’s Primary School and students from Banbury and Bicester College.
In Brackley a large number of people joined Brackley Town Council, Town Mayor Councillor Don Thompson and representatives from the Royal British Legion at Brackley War memorial. Children from Bracken Leas Primary School and Brackley Junior School attended, alongside 4 pupils from Winchester House and the Head Boy and Head Girl from Magdalen College School.
Elsewhere the two minutes silence was observed in shops, offices and people’s homes. The Castle Quay Shopping Centre announced it was 11 o’clock to shoppers and invited them to mark the silence.
