Attempted kidnapping and assault in Banbury by men with machete

Police have increased patrols in the area

A group of men – one armed with a large machete –tried to kidnap a man on a Banbury estate on Tuesday evening (November 4).

The victim, who’s a man in his twenties, required hospital treatment for minor injuries when he was subsequently assaulted.

The attempted kidnapping by three men happened on Danesmoor shortly after 9pm.  

The victim managed to flee but was caught and assaulted by the offenders on Woodfield.

The first offender is described as a black man, around 6ft tall with dreadlocks. He was wearing a Nike Tech black and grey hoodie and a balaclava.

The second offender is described as a white man, around 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

The third offender is described as a white man, around 5ft 10ins tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Shahed Ali said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this attempted kidnapping and assault or has information that may help us to get in touch.

“I am also appealing to anyone that may have seen any vehicles leaving the areas of Danesmoor, Ironstones or Woodfield that can assist our enquiries.

“As part of our ongoing response, we have increased patrols in the area to provide a visible policing presence and offer reassurance to the community as we believe that this an isolated assault with no wider threat to the public.
