Aynho villagers object to proposed warehouses at Baynards Green

The 280,000 square metre development could lead to a significant increase in lorries using the B4100

A planning application for a large-scale warehousing and distribution centre at junction 10 of the M40 has received a thumbs down from villagers in Aynho.   They fear the development would result in the main road through their village being used even more as a “rat run” between Bicester, the M40 and Banbury.

The application by Albion Land is looking for outline permission to build warehouses and associated office space of 280,000 square metres in size with site entrances onto the B4100.   The land, which is currently arable, sits on both sides of the A43 between the Baynards Green service area and junction 10 of the M40.

Aynho Parish Council has written to Cherwell District Council to object to the application, highlighting the significant increase in heavy goods (HGV) and light commercial vehicles that it would be likely to attract through the village.

The village is set within a Conservation area with most properties facing the B4100 dating from the 18th century, leading to concerns additional traffic may cause structural damage, together with a significant increase in air and noise pollution.

However, the Parish Council says that the residents of Aynho have been left out of the consultation because Aynho falls within the West Northants District Council area, not the Cherwell.   This is despite the fact that any traffic to the west of the development would be using the B4100 through Aynho.

In order to protect the village Aynho Parish Council says they would require an HGV weight limit and a routing agreement stopping traffic travelling west from the proposed site on the B4100.

Cherwell District Council are hoping to have made a decision on the planning application by the end of April.

We already suffer ftom too much commercial traffic through the village on what is a B road. This development will only increase the usage. It would only be acceptable if a weight restriction was applied to the B4100 to make trucks use the M40 which takes them to the same destination on a much more suitable route of motorway and A43 trunk road.

Strongly object to this due to the traffic and nature of such a pleasant village, it needs not ruin the special features of the beautiful space.
People enjoy the charm of this Village, not more lorry noise and distruption.
