The joint administrators say a sale of the stores is now unlikely
The administrators appointed to oversee the Bodycare business across the country have confirmed the remaining outlets – including the Banbury store in Castle Quay Shopping Centre – will close.
Nick Holloway, Chris Pole and Mike Leeds from Interpath, were appointed joint administrators of G.R. & M.M. Blackledge plc, which trades as Bodycare, at the start of the month. They have already closed a number of stores, but the Banbury site remained open as they sold off stock and tried to find a purchaser for the business.
In a statement released this afternoon they said they had continued to liaise with a number of parties who have expressed interest in the business. Whilst these discussions are ongoing they feel it is unlikely that a sale of the stores will happen.
Given a shortage of stock and significant costs associated with operating the stores they have concluded it is no longer viable to continue to trade the business and are commencing a closure programme for the remaining 56 stores.
It is expected that all stores will close by this Saturday (September 27).
All 444 members of staff at the stores will be made redundant.
Mr Holloway said: “We understand this has been a difficult period and so we want to further express our sincere thanks to Bodycare’s staff who, since day one of the administration, have maintained the strong standards of presentation and customer service that Bodycare was renowned for.
“We will continue to explore options for the Company’s assets, including the Bodycare brand, and will provide further updates in due course.”
