A care home in Banbury has helped one of its residents fulfil a wish to travel to the seaside.

71-year-old Martin Keane lives at Care UK’s Highmarket House on North Bar Place.   He missed the sights and sounds of the coast and wanted to enjoy fish and chips at the seaside, so a special fun day out to Bournemouth was organised for him and a few other residents.

It has been 18 years since Martin last visited the seaside, but at the end of July he was once again able to walk along the pier and get an ice cream, before sitting and enjoying the tranquillity of being by the coast.

To top things off, the residents and home team enjoyed a much-awaited fish and chip lunch along with a pint of beer, while taking in the view of the sea front.

Martin said: “I really enjoyed the day out to the seaside and my favourite part was being on the sea front and sipping my pint of Stella – I also couldn’t have asked for better company and better care.”

Francesca Cowley, Home Manager at Highmarket House, said: “Our trip to Bournemouth was one for the books, and there’s no doubt we’ll still be talking about it for weeks to come.

“Martin loves the seaside and has shared countless stories of his beach holidays over the years – so when he made a wish to enjoy a fish and chip supper by the sea, we knew we had to make it happen.

“It was incredibly rewarding for the team to see just how happy he was to be near the sea again – the smile on his face said it all. It was a lovely day out for the residents, and we were able to make Martin’s wish to visit the seaside again come true!”
