Banbury Operatic Society are back with rootin’ tootin’ Calamity Jane
14/02/2024
The show is on at the Wykham Theatre until the weekend
Banbury Operatic Society are back on stage at the Wykham Theatre this evening with their latest production – the musical Calamity Jane. It’s the wild west story of a girl who dresses, rides and shoots like a man, but given the proper chance can be a beautiful girl who hankers for the love of a man.
Banbury Operatic Society have been entertaining audiences for over 60 years. To ensure as many people as possible feel welcome in the theatre for this run they have made Saturday afternoon’s performance a “relaxed” one, which will include British Sign Language interpretation, modified lighting and sound levels, and specialised support for attendees. Additional wheelchair spaces will be available to ensure everyone can enjoy the Wild West adventure.
Sarah Wright makes her directorial debut for the Society with Calamity Jane. She said: “Calamity Jane is a timeless classic filled with humour, romance, and unforgettable music. Our cast and crew have poured their hearts into bringing this Wild West tale to life, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience the magic on stage.”
Banbury Operatic Society Chairman, Jess Smith, added: “We are thrilled to continue our tradition of bringing exciting musicals to Banbury. Following the success of Kinky Boots, we are confident that Calamity Jane will be a rootin’ tootin’ good time for audiences of all ages. And, with the additional relaxed performance, we hope more people than ever will be able to join us!”
