Banbury’s new MP has arrived in Westminster.

Sean Woodcock was elected last Thursday as Labour took control of the Banbury constituency.

In a social media post on Sunday as Mr Woodcock set off to London he said: “The hard work of fixing our country and bringing change to north Oxfordshire begins.”

On arriving at Westminster all new MPs are given a “new MP’s buddy” – a member of the Commons staff to help them find their way around the buildings and learn the ropes.   A number of house-keeping jobs will also be completed, including setting up a Commons email address, receiving a Commons laptop and iPad, and receiving HR advice.

The new Parliament has been called to meet for the first time tomorrow.   The initial task for MPs will be to elect the Speaker of the House of Commons.   After that old and new MPs, including Mr Woodcock, will be sworn in.   This is a process that can take several days.
