Biogas plant near Evenley gets go-ahead

24/09/2025

Both supporters and objectors packed the Council Chamber for the decision

Plans for a controversial biogas plant near Evenley have been approved by councillors at West Northamptonshire Council.

It means developers Acorn Bioenergy will be able to build a facility to process crops and animal waste in anaerobic digestors to create biomethane for the National Grid.

The decision reverses the rejection of a previous application for the facility in 2023.   This latest decision had been delayed after councillors called for more information.

The project sparked strong opposition, with 306 objection letters raising concerns about traffic, odour and loss of countryside.

But 176 letters of support were also received, with farmers backing the plans for providing income and natural fertiliser.

Both supporters and objectors packed the Council Chamber in Towcester to watch the application being debated and decided.
