Bishop Loveday children donate toys to improve Christmas for children in hospital

The toys were delivered on Friday afternoon
Children who end up spending some of this Christmas in the Horton General Hospital will benefit from the generosity of pupils at Bishop Loveday School in Bodicote.
They have donated a number of toys for the waiting area in the Accident and Emergency Unit and shoeboxes with gifts for those staying in the Childrens’ Ward.
8-year-old Isla came up with the idea to help time waiting in Accident and Emergency pass a little more quickly. She said: “I’ve had a couple of trips there and there’s never been anything to do in the waiting room.
“I thought we could collect donations to go and put in there so children have something to do while they’re waiting for something to happen.”
Other Bishop Loveday pupils also wanted to help those staying in the Children’s Ward.
Isla said: “The Arts Ambassadors wanted to do the shoebox project, where you get shoe boxes and fill them with nice little things, wrap them up and send those off to the children’s ward.
“We’ve collected lots of donations.”
The toys were all delivered to the hospital on Friday afternoon before the school closed for the Christmas holiday.
Isla added: “A lot of children are going to be in there on Christmas Eve which is quite sad, so if they get some presents maybe it will be more like they’re at home with their families and having a good time.
“We’ve got stuffed animals, toy sets, lots of action figures and things like that. We’ve split them in half, so some are going to the waiting room and some are going to the Childrens’ Ward.”
Bishop Loveday’s motto is “be the change”, encouraging everyone in the school community to do small acts of kindness to make life better for other people, both within the school and also in the wider area.
Its thought between 35 and 45 children will visit or stay in the Horton on Christmas Day and its hoped these children will now get to enjoy some of the donated toys.
