Brackley Round Table take on Wizzard Christmas tune

The song will be heard as the Round Table takes Father Christmas around the area

Festive Round Tablers from Brackley have recorded their own version of a Christmas song, which can be heard as they take Father Christmas around the area this year.

Chairman Darren Hunn had the inspiration for the project and says his fellow tablers are used to him having whacky ideas!

After a few phone calls Darren found a recording studio willing to take them on.   He said: “I contacted a few local recording studios.   I was very honest and upfront that we were a long way from experts – or talented!   A few of them were more keen than others.   XYZ Studio at Westcott were more than keen and booked us in.”

Members of the club voted on which festive tune they should sing, with Wizzard’s “I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday” the song chosen, beating other options such as the Cheeky Girl’s “Cheeky Christmas”.

After three hours in the studio the recording was complete.

Darren said they were all surprised when they heard the finished song: “It was really good cause it was so much better than we all expected it to be.   We’d all expected it to be pretty terrible!

“We had heard one version on the night, which was basically everybody merged together singing.   Once the producer had finished it we met up and played it together.

“Everyone was quite blown away with how well it came out.”

The song was first played to the huge crowd at the Brackley Christmas Lights switch-on last weekend and received a good response.   It will now be played as the Brackley Round Table Santa Float tours the town and the surrounding villages over the coming days.

Darren said the whole experience had given them a real buzz: “December can be a long slog for us because we do 22 shifts in Brackley.   We try and balance it with work and families as well. It can be a bit daunting.  It’s giving everyone a lift and a real buzz.”

Darren joined Andy on Banbury FM Breakfast on Thursday morning to talk about the song.   You can listen again here.
