Brackley’s Horror House prepares to open!
30/10/2024
It’s the seventh year Ben Alderton has set up the popular experience
Brackley’s biggest Halloween experience is preparing to welcome fright night guests for the seventh year running tomorrow (Thursday).
Brackley Horror House will provide a real “nightmare on Orion Drive” experience as number 50 becomes the focal point for a scarefest which has been weeks in the planning.
Ben Alderton is behind the project, which started as a bit of fun trick or treating with his first son. The Horror House has now grown to an event which takes over the street, with a road closure in place to keep people safe.
“We have an immersive haunted house walkway with about 16 live actors,” explained Ben. “There’s a hog roast (with apple sauce and stuffing) and we have a licenced bar.
“There’s a trick or treat event where kids get to put their hands in this whiskey barrel which is cut in the shape of a pumpkin / scary face. There’s slime in there and they pull out a dead man’s finger and in exchange for a treat!
“We also have a drone overhead flying with a ghoul dangling down, which will run the length of the road.”
With a background in art and design Ben enjoys the creative side of the Horror House, which takes a lot of setting up.
“I’ve worked on this since September,” said Ben, “and I have been going all guns blazing for the last 3-4 weeks.”
This year up to 40 volunteers will be helping Ben on the night – that’s grown from around 15 last year when around 2,000 people attended the event.
The Horror House has raised money for Parkinson’s UK for the last three years. It’s a charity which means a lot to Ben’s family.
He said: “With my dad being diagnosed with Parkinson’s about seven years ago, one of the good ways of expanding it is to put a charity behind it. Parkinson’s is a charity close to my heart – my family’s hearts. So we’re raising money for Parkinson’s UK.”
With so many people expected Ben is selling tickets in advance at his house, online and also at the Chequered Flag pub in Lark Rise.
He’s very excited to see what people make of the Horror House this year, but wouldn’t be drawn on what was the scariest part!
“I can’t possibly tell you – you have to wait and see! There is a very infamous character that was born last year who will be lurking in the background somewhere, but I can’t tell you where he is and who he is!”
The Brackley Horror House will be open from 5pm until 11pm tomorrow at 50 Orion Drive.
