Brass band hope more musicians will join following contest success

In their anniversary year the Brackley band achieved their best placing in recent years
Brackley and District Band are hoping a few more people will come forward to join them as they head through their 50th anniversary year.
The band recently took part in the Regional Brass Band Contest in Corby and achieved their best result in recent years, coming fourth out of a line-up of fifteen bands. That was just one place short of qualifying for the national finals of the competition later this year.
With their eyes on even greater success the band has put out a call for more musicians to join their ranks. Currently they have positions for a front row cornet player, horn, euphonium, Eb bass, Bb bass and percussion. Instruments can be provided.
Earlier this year the band held open rehearsals offering people the opportunity to drop in and find out more about them. Alec Stageman was one person who went along and since then he has continued to enjoy playing with the band.
The Regional Brass Band Contest was his first. He said: “Everyone was very supportive of each other and I was made to feel welcome, like I’d always been there.
“We did very well, considering myself and others were new to the band … I also enjoyed the social time and can’t wait for next year.”
Conductor Dave Howard said: “I was delighted with the band’s performance on the day. They did everything I asked of them and have come a long way in the few months that we’ve been working together.
“This all bodes well for the future as we work to build the band back up to full strength in this, its 50th anniversary year. I’m really looking forward to some exciting concerts and further competition success in the future.”
