Brown bin collection subscription can now be purchased

Garden waste bin will not be emptied after March 1 unless a subscription licence label has been purchased
If you live in the Cherwell District and want your brown garden waste bin emptied after March 1 next year you will need to purchase a subscription licence label. These have gone on sale today and the council is offering a 10 per cent discount to anyone who signs up before February 28.
The standard rate will be £40 for the first year for those who plan to continue using the service. This is being reduced to £36 for early bird subscribers.
Anyone with more than one brown bin can purchase further subscriptions at £30 each.
A welcome pack including the subscription licence label will be sent to all those who have subscribed to the service after February 14.
For those choosing not to sign-up, from March 1 their brown bins will no longer be emptied. The Council says they will then be removed from June 2022.
A new outdoor food waste caddy is due to be delivered to every household during January and February. The 23-litre capacity bins will be emptied weekly from March 1 at no cost.
Councillor Dan Sames, Lead Member for Clean and Green, said: “We have resisted charging for garden waste for as long as possible but changes to the way that food waste is collected has necessitated introducing a paid for garden waste service.
“We have looked at similar services in neighbouring areas and have priced the service at a level that is cheaper than all but one of them. If residents sign up between now and the end of February, they will save money compared to signing up after that date.
“Our food waste collection service will change from fortnightly to weekly, doubling the frequency and offering residents added convenience, particularly in the warmer months when residents often complained of bad bin smells.”
Bin collection days will not be changing under the new arrangements.
