Call for family community services to be rebuilt

MP says the Conservatives took a scythe to what had previously been available
Community services in Banbury and North Oxfordshire need to be ‘rebuilt’. That’s the view of Banbury’s MP Sean Woodcock, who says the Conservatives took a scythe to the support available to families in our area during their time in power.
The last Labour government introduced Sure Start services – revolutionising family and community services. But today one in four families with children under five can’t access local children’s centres or Family Hubs. That rises to one in three in lower income families.
Mr Woodcock blames the Conservatives and is urging the current government to return to the support the previous Labour government introduced.
He said: “The Conservatives took a scythe to family services in Banbury and North Oxfordshire. When it comes to education, they and Reform only seem interested in cutting state school budgets to restore private schools’ tax breaks.
“But it’s right that I call on the Labour government to rebuild those services. We did so with Sure Start, I know we can do the same again.”
