Call for MP to “do the right thing by her constituents”

Council Labour group leader calls for Victoria Prentis to back Privileges Committee report in full
The leader of the Labour Group at Cherwell District Council is calling on Banbury’s MP, Victoria Prentis, to “do the right thing by her constituents and vote to accept the findings of the Privileges Committee report in full”.
MPs are today debating the report which found Boris Johnson deliberately misled MPs over lockdown parties in No 10.
The report from the Common’s Privileges Committee follows a year-long inquiry. It recommends Mr Johnson should have been suspended from the Commons for 90 days if he had remained an MP.
Councillor Sean Woodcock said: “The Privileges Committee report makes clear the utter contempt with which the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson treated Parliament. It is dwarfed by the contempt that he showed for the British people during the pandemic with his persistent rule-breaking. Hosting boozy parties while the late Queen mourned her late husband, alone.
“But Boris Johnson only got away with it because of the support of Conservative MPs. MPs like Victoria Prentis. Back in June 2022, she voted confidence in the disgraced former PM. Enabling him to remain in office even if only, in hindsight, for a matter of weeks.
“On Monday, she has the chance to, finally, do the right thing by her constituents and vote to accept the findings of the Privileges Committee report in full. Many of her colleagues have already stated that they won’t be.
“People in Banbury will be watching what she does.”
MPs are split in how they plan to vote. Tory MP Tobias Elwood planned to be in the chamber so he can vote against the former prime minister. Meanwhile Nadine Dorries, Boris Johnson’s most ardent backer, warned those who vote against the former PM are not “true Conservatives”.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has refused to say which way he will vote, or if he would turn up.
Banbury FM has contacted Mrs Prentis and offered her the chance to respond to Councillor Woodcock’s comments.
