Calls for derelict garages to be secured and redeveloped

The site has been sold to a third party so neither the council or Sanctuary Housing are responsible
Calls have been made for action to be taken to secure and, ultimately, redevelop derelict garages on Bretch Hill.
Councillor Mark Cherry says he’s been contacted by local residents who are concerned the run-down area is attracting anti-social behaviour.
The garages sit between the homes on Bretch Hill, Conway Drive and Edmunds Road.
Councillor Cherry is urging anyone who is aware of anti-social behaviour to tell the police.
The issue has also been reported to officers at Cherwell District Council, but they are limited as to what action can be taken. A spokesperson told Banbury FM: “The council is aware that residents have raised concerns to Sanctuary Housing about garages in Bretch Hill. As the garages do not belong to the council, we have limited powers to intervene regarding their management arrangements.
“We continue to make representations to Sanctuary on this topic when concerns are raised with us.”
However Sanctuary Housing have confirmed to Banbury FM the garages have been sold to a third party and are no longer their responsibility.
With no easy resolution to the problem Councillor Cherry hopes people will register their concerns. He said: “I urge [residents] to report any further anti-social behaviour in the area to Thames Valley Police.
“The site urgently needs securing and redeveloping. I will work with Cherwell District Council to take this issue forward.”
