Cancelled events and shop closures for day of royal funeral
14/09/2022
Some venues will open, but after the funeral
Local business and organisations have been announcing their plans for next Monday – the day that Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral will take place.
The “Let’s Talk” evening with a number of senior Councillors from the County Council had been planned at the Mill Arts Centre as an opportunity for people to have their say and ask questions of the County Council’s cabinet. This has been cancelled as a mark of respect, alongside other similar events planned for elsewhere around the county during what is now a period of national mourning.
Spiceball Sports Centre and the Woodgreen Leisure Centres will be closed until 2pm, but then open until to 8pm that evening. The joint use facilities at North Oxfordshire Academy will be closed all day.
Local businesses are also adjusting their plans. The Hook Norton Brewery says the Brewery, Shop and Malthouse Kitchen will be closed for business all day.
The main Tesco and Sainsbury’s stores in Banbury and Brackley will close all day. Smaller “local” shops will open at 5pm. Morrisons, Waitrose, Lidl and Aldi will be closed throughout Monday.
