Tickets go on sale on Saturday

This year marks the tenth anniversary of the passing of former Banbury Town Mayor and prolific Horton General Hospital campaigner George Parish.

Mr Parish would have been 85 this year.

To mark the anniversary and remember his huge contribution to the town his granddaughter Rosanna Driver is hosting “A Night of Rock ‘n’ Roll” in his memory.

Its set to take place at the GF Club on Saturday September 5th – just a few days before Mr Parish’s birthday.

The rock ’n’ roll theme has been chosen in line with the many charity nights Mr Parish organised, which earnt him the title of “Banbury’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Mayor”.

Tickets are being released in three instalments, with the first batch available tomorrow at the early discounted price of £20 per person.

The main bulk of the profits will be donated to Vale House Hospice – the care home where Mr Parish spent his final months, and the Alzheimer’s Society, which provided support to his family as he lived with the disease.

Rosanna said: “I always knew how special my grandad was and how lucky I was to orbit in his universe, but I also knew how much he meant to many others, too.

“My grandad was a special, kind and amazing man who cared so much for his town and the people, and it has been humbling to see – even all these years later – how much he meant to everyone in return.

“I wanted to organise an event for people to come together to celebrate the legacy he has left behind and remember the extraordinary man he was – and one I was lucky enough to call ‘grandad’.

“I think he would’ve loved the idea of his baby granddaughter taking the reins to organise a rock ‘n’ roll night just like he did many times – although this time in his honour – and I am sure he will be jiving and twisting away alongside all his rock ‘n’ roll idols when we come together.”

Tickets are available here.
