A limited number of places are available for two special excursions this weekend

Families have a chance to hear charming children’s stories about our waterways whilst taking a trip on a narrowboat this Saturday.   Tooley’s boatyard are offering 40-minute trips with the author of the Muddy Waters books, Dan Clacher.

Those wishing to take advantage of the special excursions need to act quickly as only two tours are available, with room for just 12 passengers.

The trip will be made on Tooley’s very own 39 ft purpose-built day boat the Dancing Duck.

The Muddy Waters series of books are set on the Waterways of The UK and beyond and feature a narrowboat called Muddy and his friends, Jolly Boatman, Hamish and Dizzy Spells.   Together they face challenges and watch out for the fiendish pirate boat Ol’ One Eye.

On the day the books will be available from Tooley’s shop at a special price of £2.99 each. Every child passenger will have the chance to meet the author, Dan Clacher, to discover the inspiration behind Muddy Waters, ask questions and get a story book personally signed.

Dan Clacher said: “All Muddy Waters fans know that Muddy himself was built at Tooley’s boatyard over two hundred years ago. This magical place has been the inspiration for boat builders and story tellers for centuries. “.

John Madden, Chair of Tooley’s Boatyard Trust, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Dan to Banbury. The pandemic has meant a shorter 2021 season, but this event will be a bit special, and we’re sure it will capture the imagination of children and adults alike.

“The regular Saturday boat trips have proved so popular that we hope to extend the season through to October.”

The trips depart at 11:30am and 1:00pm and must be booked in advance by visiting Tooley’s website or calling 01295 272917.
